ONE KEY, ANOTHER YEAR

Kalesma has been awarded One MICHELIN Key for the second year.
The first came in 2025. Since then, quite a lot has changed.
Kalesma has grown to 52 rooms, suites and villas. The Open-Air Wellness Sanctuary has taken its place on the hillside. There are new paths, new spaces and more of the hotel than there was a year ago.
Receiving the same recognition again means something slightly different this time.
One Key denotes what MICHELIN calls “a very special stay”, recognising hotels for an experience that goes beyond simply providing a place to sleep.
Kalesma received its first Key in 2025 and has been awarded One Key again this year.
We are very proud to receive it.
A year of change. Between one Key and the next, Kalesma grew.
Some of that change is easy to see. There are more rooms along the hillside. Kuveda has brought even further the familiar idea of the Greek kafenio into the hotel, with coffee, meze and time around the table. The Open-Air Wellness Sanctuary has created another way to spend time outdoors.
Then there are the practical consequences of getting bigger.
More arrivals. More breakfasts. More tables to set. More people coming back from the beach at once, or asking for a boat, or deciding they would rather stay exactly where they are.
Growth changes the rhythm of a hotel.
The question for Kalesma was how to grow without losing the intimacy that had defined it in the first place.
Kalesma was conceived in the spirit of a small Mykonian village, with buildings spread across the hillside and paths connecting rooms, courtyards and terraces.
There is more of that village now.
But architecture is only part of what makes a place feel familiar.
The rest comes down to people.
Hotels change constantly, even when nothing new is being built.
Guests arrive and leave. Rooms are made again. Breakfast starts again. Plans change because the wind is up. A boat needs arranging. A table needs moving. Someone needs something now; somebody else doesn’t want to be disturbed.
Most of this is ordinary.
It is also the work.
A MICHELIN Key is a recognition attached to a hotel, but a hotel only works because of the people inside it.
The people cooking before breakfast begins. Making rooms. Setting tables. Carrying bags. Pouring drinks. Looking after the grounds. Answering questions. Fixing the things that inevitably need fixing.
And then there are the details that don’t appear on anyone’s job description quite so neatly.
Remembering a name. Knowing which table someone prefers. Picking up a conversation from the day before. Recognising when to step in and when to leave someone alone.
None of this is particularly grand.
Much of good hospitality isn’t.
The Kalesma awarded One MICHELIN Key this year is not quite the Kalesma that received its first in 2025.
It is larger. There are new places to go and more paths to get there. But some things are reassuringly familiar.
Breakfast still runs longer than intended. Delos is still there across the water. Dinner occasionally becomes another drink.
And someone remembers how you take your coffee.
Receiving One MICHELIN Key for a second year is something we’re very happy to share.
And we’re especially grateful to the people who make those small things happen, day after day.
